How well do you think the course conveyed those takeaways?

The takeaways in question are:

test first, test during, test after; when designing algorithms, demand the weakest iterators; when designing containers, provide the strongest iterators; build adapters on top of containers; always look for reuse and symmetry in your code; collaboration is essential to the quality of your code and to your well-being in producing it; refactor, refactor, refactor; and make your code beautiful.

This course did a good job of conveying these takeaways. Now that I’ve taken this class, I have a basic idea of a good workflow for…

What did you do this past week?

I mostly spent this last week working on assignments for classes, including for this class. I also registered for classes for next semester and hosted a meeting for one of my student orgs. I also did my regular TA duties (hosting office hours and discussion section).

What’s in your way?

I started a bit late on the Life project (that’s on me, I had other assignments with higher priority at the time I should’ve started), but I think I’ll be fine since I’ve put in a lot of time on it so far…

What did you do this past week?

I spent this last week catching up on work. I’m not sure how, but I had ended up slightly behind. Luckily, I had just enough time to get all my assignments in without being late.

What’s in your way?

I will be honest: today I’m not feeling very well. I was going to spend today catching up on more work to keep myself from getting behind again, but after only a little bit of work I found myself tired and, frankly, unhappy. Maybe I should be getting more sleep. In any case, getting…

What did you do this past week?

I spent my last week working through assignments and TA duties. I finished up the Darwin project and a homework for my Algorithms class. On a non-academic note, I drove back up to my hometown to spend the weekend with my family.

What’s in your way?

Right now, not much. I’ve got a project to do for my Symbolic Programming class and a take-home exam for my Intro to Ancient Greece class due to work on this next week, but neither seems like an obstacle enough to consider it something that is in…

What did you do this past week?

This past week was pretty standard, with two exceptions. I worked on projects for this class and others, and I also held office hours and a discussion section. What made this week better than usual was that I received a CNS Second Year Excellence Award, so I got to go to the awards ceremony for that on Thursday afternoon. The second thing that made this week extraordinary was that just earlier today I got the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine! Like many other people, I’ve been waiting for this for a while…

What did you do this past week?

The week before this past week, I had gotten fairly behind on work; consequently, I took this past week as an opportunity to catch up and get ahead on all my work. I succeeded in doing this, and I’m glad to say I’m not stressing about my work anymore.

What’s in your way?

I don’t have much in my way. I’ve knocked out enough work over this past week that I have a fairly light workload for right now.

What will you do next week?

I will be working through labs for this…

What did you do this past week?

I spent this last week catching up on work. Normally, I’m pretty decent at time management; spring break (which, in all fairness, was supposed to be a break in the middle of one of the weirdest and most stressful times we’ve had to live through) more or less completely threw off my groove, and I had a lot of work to finish up in a short amount of time. …

What did you do this past week?

I did my usual college stuff — worked on assignments, held office hours and discussion section, attended classes. I finished our Voting lab, but did most of my work on the day it was due. I normally wouldn’t have put it off so late, but I ended up having to since other classes had had assignments around the same time that forced me to push back working on it multiple times.

What’s in your way?

Right now, this blog. I don’t mean that in any rude way (I actually kind of like the…

What did you do this past week?

I finished up a few assignments this week: the Collatz lab for this class, homework for Algorithms class, a project for my Symbolic Programming class, and a quick written assignment for Intro to Ancient Greece. I did my standard TA duties, too (office hours and discussion section, mainly). In my non-academic life, I scheduled a tour of an apartment I’ve been looking at. Finally — and also not related to my classes — I walked to my parking garage in the freezing rain to move my car to a lower level due to…

What did you do this past week?

I spent this last week doing pretty standard CS student things, like going to classes and finishing up classwork. I did some work related to my TA position, too: I worked with another TA for the class to write up a simple debugging demonstration in C for our class.

What’s in your way?

Right now, not much is standing in my way, and that makes me happy. I have next to no plans for the weekend and a manageable amount of work to get done during that free time.

What will you do…
